Hannah's Epic Two

What a BIRTHDAY!

It really was an incredible birthday. One I will certainly never forget!

I woke Hannah up in the morning at 6:00 so that we could open presents and eat a special birthday breakfast as a family. When I asked her if she knew what day it was, she said "July twenty-seben! Hannah's birthday two years old!"

We opened some really great gifts from Grandparents and Mommy and Daddy which occupied her the whole morning long. I took Hannah out to McDonald's to eat and play for a special birthday lunch together. After that she was OBSESSED with getting a birthday hat and I needed to pick out some balloons for her party so we went to Party City. As we were leaving Party City Hannah told me she wanted to go home (which she NEVER does...she always wants to go OUT) and by the time we pulled into the driveway she was zonked out.

I had two Hannah free hours to get ready for the party. Adam got home soon after and we set the whole house up together. When Hannah woke up she came downstairs and even though she had been there with me to buy the balloons and decorations she was amazed and so excited.

I had a list of kids that Hannah plays with on a weekly basis that I wanted to invite, plus there were some more nursery friends that she loves, plus a few more friends...all in all I invited about 15 kids. Most of those kids had siblings. All of those kids had parents. Only a few couldn't make it. I had 26 kids between the ages of 3 months and 6 years playing at my house yesterday. There were a total of 40 people. I was overwhelmed. Not in the way you think I would be though. I was so grateful that we had such a huge support group there to make Hannah's party so fun. The theme of the party was Where the Wild Things Are, and I think I had most of them in my house. It was so fantastic! We all had a blast and Hannah only cried once when someone was playing with her "Buzzyear and Woody" that she loves so we just had to take those toys away. She loved all her gifts and everyone was so wonderful. She even got a Justin Bieber poster which initially she was excited, and then shy of. Epic.

After all the party guests had cleared out, Hannah was playing with all her fun gifts and balloons. Adam set one free and Hannah was upset so we had to tell her that it was for baby Paige in heaven who couldn't be at the birthday party yet. Then she wanted to send ALL her balloons to her sister. Adam and I cleaned everything up and decided we were going to spend the next three days hibernating. Hannah was playing outside and decided she was done.

I watched Hannah run as fast as she could, fall as hard as she could, and come up, head gushing with blood. I was running over to the door but I wasn't as quick as Adam, who didn't see the fall but based on my reaction and Hannah's cry was flying as fast as he could. She had blood running down her face, on the floor, all over Adam. I wanted to burst out crying but stayed calm. Within 60 seconds we were driving to the ER maybe only five words passing between the two of us. I sat by Hannah and put pressure on her head. Hannah just kept asking where her princess crown was (the "hat" she had chosen for her birthday hat) and I told her it was ok, that we just forgot it in the back yard, and we'd get it when we got home. By the time we pulled into the hospital about 4 minutes later she was asking if "Baby Paige's head come out?" Back up about a month ago, I showed Hannah a birth on Youtube, figuring she would forget the whole thing but that it would help her understand that the baby in my tummy was going to be born....and every time we drive past the hospital I tell Hannah that Mommy and Daddy are going to go there when it is time for Paige to be born. So we pulled up and Hannah thought it was just time for the baby to come.

She got her head basically glued shut, no stitches (which I was thrilled about) and was perfect the whole time. Before we left I told her we were going to get pizza--her favorite. She kept saying "Hannah fall down on the head," and "Hannah eat pizza in the mouth."

All in all it was a great day, we were glad that the little emergency was just that, little. That it only took an hour from the time she fell from the moment we walked out of the ER. We were glad that she had such a happy birthday and most of all we are glad for two wonderful years.

That night as we were getting ready for bed, I found Adam in her room just watching her sleep. I realized that in just a few minutes it would be her birthday moment. We stood together and talked about how it was just two years ago that we saw her face for the first time. We watched her turn two together. I can't imagine life without this little joy. In just a few weeks more, our hearts will expand again as we welcome our newest love. We can't wait!
