New York Trip Continued~ Day Three

Day three started out cold and raining, but that didn't stop us from becoming one of the geeks that hang out at the Today Show!!! Since Rockefeller Plaza was just a ten minute walk from our place, we ran over to the Today Show and I got to shake hands with Al Roker. We also got to see Meredith and Matt on the Plaza and Adam was even seen on TV by his mom. It was pretty fun. In the studio you could even see shamed former Governor of New York Elliot Spitzer in an interview with Matt. It was fun to be there because Adam and I watch the show every morning and it was cool to see in person. We then hopped over to the NBC experience store where we purchased an umbrella because it was the only place close enough that we could find one.

After the Today Show we headed over to the Empire State Buliding to go up. In the elevator I had a slight incling to push all the buttons so they would "look like a Christmas Tree" (Elf) but I refrained :) Unfortunatly there was about zero visability up at the top because it was such a rainy day. We had a free audio tour with our city passes so we used it to imagine what it would look like through the mist. Romantically, there was a time when we (along with the workers) were the only ones at the top! We were just like Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks making a love connection lol.

Next, our treck took us to China Town and Little Italy. It's so weird that just twenty blocks away from the heart of Manhattan are these two ethnic corners right next to each other. It was very cool to see, and very different from anything we'd experienced thus far. We ate at a place called DeNico's in Little Italy which was so romantic and delicious. My mom had recommended it for us and we loved it! We spent a while exploring down there and got lost on the subway and walked forever and ever and then finally ended back at our hotel where we took a much needed rest.

I was ready to be done for the day to be honest, we'd done a lot of walking but we had promised ourselves that we would try to get into the Colbert Report (for those of you who don't watch, the Colbert Report is a faux news program on Comedy Central, a spin off of the Daily Show with Jon Stewart). We love that show and the guest for the night was TOM BROKAW (who is very classy and has a sexy voice). We had to get in line by 4:00 to get standby tickets. Once we had our names on the list (we were #s 9 & 10 thanks to the rain, not many people turned out) we were free to go until 5:30 when they would let us know if we made the standby. Around the corner was a Barns & Nobel where we sipped hot chocolate and got some reading done for a while before we ran across the corner to hopefully see if there was room for us. Our hearts were racing as they started calling people and we were SO GRATEFUL to get into the show!!! We were lucky enough also to be in the FRONT ROW so when Stephen ran by he gave us all high fives! It was a great show and a highlight of the trip. You can see Adam and I for about an eighth of a second haha.

So although Day Three was rainy and we had a few disapointing moments like our lack of visibility from the ESB and getting lost in the middle of the Lower East Side, it turned out to be a pretty good day!

Another fun day! I love rain, but when you are playing tourist is can be a little limiting. I remember going to Oregon (my one and only time) and it rained. I was told they hadn't had rain for 6 weeks so they needed it. I was not placated, if it hadn't rained in so long it could have waited one more day. :o) Then I thought of "This is the day that the Lord hath made, I will rejoice and be glad in it."
Great post.
