Holes

Although most of you know me as a graceful human being (OK that must be my imagination hoping again...) I must confess I am *sometimes* underobservent. Tuesday morning, I dressed quickly for work in a comfortable stripped Gap polo and knee length brown corduroy skirt, the same outfit I'd chosen to wear last week for work. I wear skirts much more often during the summer when I attempt to lower the likelihood of passing out and dying in the 114 degree weather.

On this day, it was a full two hours before someone asked me if I had spilled bleach on my skirt. I looked down and saw several light spots on the front of my skirt accompanied by a large hole. To my chagrin, I realized I must have spilled a spot of chemical during my Chemistry lab class...not only did I obtain these spots and a large hole exposing a spot of garments, but as I examined my skirt closer, I realized I had wiped my hand on the back of my skirt when I'd spilled chemical on my hands...yes this created FIVE MORE HOLES (one for each one of my delicate ladylike fingers) so all day I walked around looking like an orphan...go figure. Thank you Melissa

It was a Dark Dark Knight...

I have never silently anticipated a movie with such curious interest. Such hype and buzz surrounded the newest instalment in the Batman movies that I wanted to see it right away, but due to conflicts I wasn't able to see it for the first week. Adam and I and some friends went to see it on Friday, it was sold out. We bought tickets for Saturday, and showed up 45 minutes early to be suck in the front row of the Imax. I was really disappointed...I sulked about it for a few minutes, and then the movie began.

I have never seen such an opening sequence. The contorted, painted faces of the masked men doing the Jokers bidding were almost haunting, and having worked in a Bank, I couldn't imagine the horror of those people as they were attacked. From the first moment you see the Joker, you know fear-because he doesn't. You see evil. Many times these villains have some sorted, secret past which haunts them and gives them reason or excuse to torment and kill, to the Joker- its just a little game, just entertaining.

Batman himself was pretty good...but you find yourself drawn to the performance of Heath Ledger. The makeup which runs like blood as he licks his lips has to be the scariest part. I have never left a movie with such a dry mouth and tired body. I couldn't watch it alone because you get too sucked in to the mind of this psycho monster, you believe everything he says. If he tells the public, do this or I'll do this...he is good to his word. If he tells his men I'll do this if you do this, he is good to his word, there is no trickery, only brutal, evil honesty and trust.

The story was fabulous, the writing was fantastic. I felt that I truly experienced something dark and evil, which was fascinating to witness. When I got home, I had to watch a clip from 10 Things I Hate about You in which Ledger is a lovesick puppy dog, sweet and innocent.

Go see the movie, Its a fun experience!

An Ode

I remember watching previews for a new show premering March 2005. It intrigued me. The lead actor was "that one guy" from Bruce Almighty and it looked really funny. I was on the phone with the guy I'd been dating, and got off so I could check this show out. It started off with two men sitting in the office, one mentoring the other...one of them was on the phone and said "thank you very much sir, you are a gentleman and a scholar....(pause, hang up the phone), that was a woman." I was hooked. For the next six weeks I watched faithfully until it came to a close for the summer. The reviews were not good, I was pretty sure it was going to be canceled. Low and behold, it picked up for a second season in the fall and The Office was born.

In the fall of 2005 when it came back I wasn't as faithful at watching it, I was more concerend with my new boyfriend Adam. One year later I was downloading all the episodes from 2005/2006 waiting for the new season to start. I loved Loved LOVED it! I was addicted. I watched it those long lonley days while I waited for Adam to come home.

I just wanted to mention the best tv show on telivision. That is all.

Nobody said it was easy, no one ever said it would be this hard.

I am running. I am tired. My legs are so tired I can hardly move another inch and yet I keep running. If I stop I will be trampled. If I trip I will lose my momentum. Each day I wake up and begin my robotic routine. I feel I am losing my sanity.

Work is mentally and emotionally challenging. Keeping the elderly happy and entertained seems like an eternal task. Nobody smiles anymore. I listen as person after person tells me of their lost loves, their aches and pains, their problems with identity theft and their inability to preform the simplest tasks anymore. I just wonder if this is what life is about and this is what I have to look forward to. I don't want to get old, I think I'd just rather die at the age of 50 when I can still have the opportunity to do the things I want to do and just skip out on the aging process. Then there are the managers and co-workers who hate the customers and their jobs. Every other word at the bank rhymes with truck. I can understand how people can get frustrated or think something is so funny they have to let out a swear word once in a while, but when these are the words that you weave your everyday vocabulary with- you should probably go back to school. I only have to hang on a little while longer.

School is on top of work. After 35 hours a week working at the bank I take 18 credits of school. This is so I can just get it over with. I know what I want to do and I'm determined to finish my degree...but I can't believe some of the expectations of some professors. I swear my math teacher Scott was sent from heaven to help me understand math- but other than that I struggle to find time to balance everything. Getting my education is really important to me, and I may be the first Marsden woman to graduate with a bachelors degree from College (I know my mom did but she was an Ensign really so it doesn't count).

My Church responsibilities are overwhelming as well. Bishop wants us to have an activity every month-yet we don't have an activities committee. Adam and I are in charge of everything. I found out today that we are having a ward activity on July 26th at 5:30. I will only be able to attend part of it, and I get off work at 2:00. I nearly threw up. The last activity was so stressful and we had a lot of help- this time it's even worse. We are having 11 people in our house that weekend- on top of homework I have to worry about entertaining. The last time my In laws were over there was a small problem where I HAD to get a homework assignment done, so I told them all to go to the movie without me. My mother in law wanted us all to be together which is understandable but I really had to do my homework- I'd already been at work all week so I'd given up time with them for that but I needed to finish that assignment that day so she said if I didn't go nobody would go and they all sat there by my desk and played games. I felt bad but I HAD to get my homework done.

I just feel like I have so many responsibilities- which makes me feel like a horrible wife and a horrible member of the Church. I'm going to try to do better at being a better person. Life will get easier when I quit my job in October to substitute three days a week and I go to 15 credits for the next four semesters until I graduate- just knowing there are only four semesters left- a year and a half makes me feel a little more calm.

Last night I couldn't fall asleep. I was so wired thinking about all the responsibilities that I had to do- I was so completely exhausted. I was lying in bed with Adam when I started feeling so panicked I got up, went to the living room and cried. I flipped open the scriptures to whatever and just started reading: "And now, my sons, remember, remember that it is upon the rock of our Redeemer, who is Christ, the Son of God, that ye must build your foundation; that when the devil shall send forth his mighty winds, yea, his shafts in the whirlwind, yea, when all his hail and his mighty storm shall beat upon you, it shall have no power over you to drag you down to the gulf of misery and endless wo, because of the rock upon which ye are built, which is a sure foundation, a foundation whereon if men build they cannot fall." I read that verse over and over and over again until I started feeling better. I prayed for strength and cried and prayed and cried and when I couldn't cry anymore I went to bed.

I know it will be worth the exhaustion and the stress and physical and mental pain. I just wish this semester would be over so I could breath.

Its the same road she goes on every day. Explain. Second Honeymoon

A few months ago after many long weeks, hours, days and other such miserable increments of time spent in school and work my wonderful husband suggested that we deserved a little time to ourselves. He researched the info and pretty soon our desperate need of escape materialized into a trip to the happiest place on earth!

Friday we got up, packed up, and got the hell out. Our check in time wasn't until four o'clock so we took our time getting to our Marriott Hotel in Fullerton, about seven miles away from Disneyland. Our first stop was of course the ugly oasis in the desert: Barstow. For some reason unknown to us we ate at In-N-Out Burger. This has to be the most insane fast food place in the world! Don't get me wrong, it is my favorite fast food place on the planet- just not that location. Next we decided that because we are hard core disney-ers we needed to get ready for our trip. We bought five comfortable pairs of shoes from the outlet stores in Barstow and just goofed around together for a few hours. It was amazing to just be us without the pressures of work and school hounding us. We headed off to our Hotel and checked in with a discount provided by Addison who works for Marriott. Our room was awesome! It's always fun for me to stay in hotels! That night we ate at a fun little family owned Mexican restaurant then headed off to see You don't Mess with the Zohan, which was pretty funny, though I enjoyed Get Smart 100x more! That night we lounged around in the spa and relaxed.

On Saturday we got up, hit McDonalds and rushed to DISNEYLAND!!! It was the perfect day for Disneyland! We headed to the Finding Nemo ride which was actually really fun! Then we were off to Space Mountain! It was the first time ever I started on the right side of the park, we broke tradition! We headed over to Indy and got fast pass tickets then rode Pirates and Haunted Mansion, two classics! I was pretty surprised how non-crowded the park was! We hardly had to wait for anything, although the fast passes had a lot to do with it. After those rides we headed to Thunder Mountain and guess who we saw... Woody. For some reason Adam has loved Toy Story since Jr. High School. Adam wanted to take a picture with Woody so we did, and Lucky he'd just shown up so we didn't really have to wait. After that we went on an adventure with Indiana Jones ( I love that ride!) and then was lunch time. We had lunch at the Blue Bayou restaurant ajacent to the Pirates of the Caribbean ride. Thanks to my mom who made reservations for us and payed for our meal! We had 'water side' seats and enjoyed La Monte Cristo Special. It was so fun to watch the boats float by and enjoy a romantic meal. We continued our rides for the rest of the day with Splash Mountain etc. We also watched the 50th anniversary movie and several early Micky cartoons, shopping on Main Streets etc. I love Disneyland and I love sharing it with my prince!

The next day we went to the beach and saw Iron Man and of course relaxed in the Spa. I think even though this was a simple vacation, it meant so much to me because I got to be with my best friend and leave my burdens behind. Adam is so wonderful and I really did find my perfect match. Unfortunately, Monday morning we had to go home, but I will eternally be grateful for our weekend together! It's only the happiest place on earth if you can share it with the ones that make you the happiest! Thanks for a great idea babe!

Two old men + Death = Inspiration

I finally had the great pleasure to see the movie "The Bucket List." This movie truly motivated me to really examine what I'm doing in my life right now. Although it seems like things are a little "meh" right now, I realized that I'm in the process of crossing out one of the items on my list. That would be a Bachelors Degree in Education. I've also traveled around the world which is another item on my list, although I need to repeat several countries and add a few more to my list. Here are some of the less personal items I've written down...

1) Explore the world
2) Discover the passion and intrigue behind the "Classical" books
3) Run a great distance (marathon I'm training for)
4) Graduate with a Bachelors Degree (I should say masters cause I want one eventually but to even think of going beyond a Bachelors degree right now depresses me)
5) Write something Great.

There are of course others and these have sub categories such as the countries and cities I would like to visit. For a great movie check out "The Bucket List" and write one of your own!

Stimulating the Economy...

When we got the letter informing us that our stimulation check was in the mail Adam suddenly had a change of heart about our original plan: putting the whole check into savings...and decided he had a better idea in mind. One day during class, he wrote out all our yearly expenses and projected savings so that he could convince me that it was a good idea to spend it, because we really "didn't need the money for school." His idea...matching laptops...

As you can see it didn't take long for me to become convinced of this idea, although I wasn't keen on the laptop he chose. His is a black Acer and mine, a pink Sony Vaio... Our wedding colors. How romantic!

So there you have it, you can go ahead and thank us at any time for helping out the economy.
